A go-to-market plan for a launch: who to sell to first, what to charge, which channel, and the evidence to know within a quarter whether it is working.

A go-to-market strategy answers four questions: who buys this first, why now, how do they find out, and what does it cost to acquire them. Launches usually fail on the first one, by aiming at everybody.

We narrow the beachhead deliberately. A smaller first segment means a sharper message, a cheaper test, and a faster read on whether the proposition holds. Expansion is a later decision made on evidence.

  • Companies launching a product, or an existing product into a new country
  • Teams whose launch got attention but not revenue
  • Businesses moving from founder-led sales to a repeatable motion

  • Beachhead segment

The narrow first market where you have the clearest advantage. Defined tightly enough that you could list the accounts.

  • Proposition and pricing

What you sell, how it is packaged and what it costs, tested against willingness to pay rather than against your cost base.

  • Channel and motion

Self serve, inside sales, field sales or partner. The motion has to match the price point, and mismatches here are expensive.

  • Launch sequence

What happens in which week, from private beta through to public launch, with the decision gates between them.

  • Sales enablement

The story, the objection handling and the material the first sellers need. Written from real conversations, not from the product spec.

  • Early signal metrics

The leading indicators that tell you within weeks whether this is working, rather than waiting two quarters for revenue to confirm it.

  1. Segment

Research and interviews to find where the pain is sharpest and the buying process shortest. Two to three weeks.

  2. Position

The proposition, pricing and message for that segment, pressure tested against competitors and against real buyer language.

A small, real launch into the beachhead. Enough volume to learn from, small enough that being wrong is survivable.

  4. Scale or pivot

An honest read on the pilot, then either expansion into adjacent segments or a change of position. Both are acceptable outcomes.

  • A launch you can afford to be wrong about

Narrow first, expand later. The cost of a wrong assumption is a few weeks rather than the annual budget.

  • A message that lands

Built from how buyers describe the problem, which is rarely how the product team describes the solution.

  • Sales and marketing aligned

Same segment, same story, same definition of a qualified lead. Most launch friction is a disagreement about one of those three.

  • An early read

Leading indicators mean you know roughly where you stand in weeks, not after the quarter closes.

How is this different from a marketing strategy?

A marketing strategy covers the ongoing demand engine. A go-to-market strategy is specific to a launch or a market entry, and it includes pricing, sales motion and the launch sequence, which a marketing strategy usually does not.

We are entering a new country. Does the same approach work?

Yes, with more weight on local research. Buying behaviour, channel economics and competitive sets differ enough by market that assuming your home playbook transfers is the most common way market entry goes wrong.

How much does a go-to-market strategy cost?

It depends on how much primary research is needed, which is mostly a function of how well you already know the segment. We scope it in a first conversation and quote a fixed price for the discovery phase.

What if the pilot fails?

Then it failed cheaply and you know something you did not know before. The plan includes what a failure would look like and what you would do next, agreed before launch so it is not an argument afterwards.
